Pull rope safety switches

Pull Rope Safety Switch

Pull Rope switches

Cable pull emergency stop switches—also known as pull cord or pull wire switches—are indispensable components for industrial safety, especially on conveyor belts and other production lines.

They are ideal for situations where a standard emergency stop button is hard to reach or when a simple, hands-free stop function is required. A cable or cord is tensioned along the equipment; pulling on it at any point immediately shuts down the machine. This rapid and reliable method helps prevent accidents and enhances operator and equipment safety.

SafeLine 4 Pull Rope Safety Switch

The SafeLine 4 pull rope switch is designed for areas where physical guards cannot be installed—common in conveyor systems or production lines. A tensioned cable provides a constant emergency stop capability: applying pressure to the cable triggers the switch and halts the machine instantly.

Key specifications of the SafeLine 4:

  • Cable length up to 75 meters
  • Optional mushroom-style E-stop button
  • Tension indicator windows for easier setup
  • Contact configuration: 3NC + 1NC or 2NC + 2NO
  • Made of 316 stainless steel or Diecast metal
  • Rated IP69K for water and dust protection (stainless steel version)
  • Complies with ISO13850 and IEC60947-5
  • Achieves SIL3, PLe, and CAT4 safety levels

Easy Installation

When used as a safety device, the SL4 is installed with a tensioned cable secured to the switch’s mounting points. Correct cable tension is confirmed through the built-in tension indicators, allowing the operator to reset the machine into “Run” mode via the blue reset button.

Immediate Safety Response

If the cable is broken or the red emergency stop button is activated, the safety contacts open immediately, shutting down the equipment. This swift response reduces risks to personnel and machinery.

Quick Reset

Returning the SL4 to service requires pressing the blue button in accordance with ISO13850 (EN418), moving it back to the “Run” position. This design ensures rapid restart while maintaining stringent safety standards.

Guardian Line Pull Rope Safety Switches

The Guardian Line from IDEM Safety includes a range of rope pull safety switches that provide complete coverage along extended machinery or conveyors. By pulling on the tensioned cable, operators can shut down the system instantly at any point, minimizing response times in critical situations.

Key specifications for the Guardian Line

  • Coverage: From 30 m (GLM) up to 250 m (GLH, when switches are combined)
  • Materials: Die-cast metal (yellow-coated) or 316 stainless steel
  • Optional Features: Two-colour LED indicator, E-stop on the right or left, OSSD output, ATEX-rated versions, IP69K versions
  • Flexible Accessories: Tensioning kits, eye bolts, cable pulleys, springs, tensioners, and spare parts
  • Application Areas: Ideal for harsh environments requiring easy cleaning or explosion protection

GLH (Heavy Duty)

Up to 250 Meters

The Guardian Line Heavy Duty (GLH) series protects long distances by linking three switches (left, middle, right). This setup can safeguard up to 250 meters, making it perfect for extensive production lines or large-scale conveyor systems.

GLM (Mini)

30 Meters

For smaller setups, the Guardian Line Mini (GLM) offers coverage of up to 30 meters with a single switch. Its compact design suits installations with limited space.

GLS (Standard Duty)

80 Meters

Positioned between the two extremes, the Guardian Line Standard Duty (GLS) covers up to 80 meters with just one switch, providing a flexible safety solution for many typical conveyor or production line layouts.

Wide Range of Options

Built with robust housing—either yellow die-cast metal or 316 stainless steel—they withstand demanding conditions.

A two-colour LED can be added for clear status indication, and an additional E-stop button can be integrated on either side of the unit. Versions with OSSD outputs are also available for advanced safety circuitry.

Optional Features

IDEM Safety’s Guardian Line cable pull switches are available in robust materials, such as die-cast metal (yellow-coated) or 316 stainless steel. For smaller coverage needs, the Guardian Line Mini (GLM) model protects distances of up to 30 meters with a single switch—ideal for compact installations where space is limited.

High Protection Class

For demanding environments, IDEM offers ATEX and IP69K versions that are easy to clean and highly resistant to dust, water, and corrosive substances. A wide range of accessories is also available, including tension kits, pulleys, springs, tensioners, and replacement covers—providing a practical, sustainable solution for maintaining your cable pull systems.
